The Cunning Jackal and the Cow friends

In the grasslands of Munnar, there were 4 cows Sparkle, Pear, Spotty and Browny, who grazed together. Each one of them were different in their own way . Sparkle had sparkling eyes, Pear had a pear shaped black spot on her forehead, Spotty was white with black spots on her body, and Browny was brown in colour.

Though everybody was different in their own way, they never made fun of each other or fought with each other. There was a cunning jackal named Jacky, who lived in the hills of Kurinji, saw these cows grazing and playing everyday. It wanted have these cows for a delicious meal. So, on a sunny day, it tried attacking on Sparkle. But Pear, Spotty and Browny ran to the rescue of Sparkle and chased Jacky out of the grassland. Sparkle was safe because all of them were friends and they helped each other when the need arouse.

Now, Jacky thought of a plan to attack the cows. Meanwhile , the cows planned for a party to celebrate their friendship. So, they shared the arrangement work among themselves. Sparkle went in search of flowers to decorate their cowshed . Pear went in search of straw. Spotty went to bring some fresh grass to eat and Browny went in search of hay.

Jacky saw the cows going in each direction, so, it first followed Sparkle and said, "do you know that Pear is going to trim her tail, without telling others ? How mean of her , she wants to look very pretty." Now, Sparkle became angry on Pear.

Next, Jacky went to Pear and told that Sparkle is bathing in the river without telling anyone , so that she wants to look "sparkly". Pear got angry  on Sparkle.

Now, Jacky went to Browny and told that Spotty is going to eat the best and fresh grass she finds first and only then she will bring the leftover grass for everyone else. So, Browny was angry with Spotty.

Now finally, Jacky went to Spotty and told that Browny is playing in the hills of hay without telling anyone. Now, Spotty became angry with Browny.

Sparkle, Pear, Spotty and Browny ran to the grassland, where the party was going to be held. Once they saw each other they started fighting and went angrily in each direction. Jacky was successful  in separating the cows. Now,  Jacky had one of the cows for  a delicious meal every day.

Moral of the story -
When the cows were friends, nobody could attack them. Once they were separated, the cunning jackal ate them all. The moral of the story is "Unity is Strength ".

The Brinjal Boy

Once there lived Mr.Kiku who sold vegetables in a market.
In his brinjal basket, there was a brinjal boy, which he himself did't know. 
One sunny morning, a man named Mr. Jumbo came to the market and
bought brinjals from Mr.Kiku. The brinjal boy also jumped into Mr.Jumbo's basket.

When Mr.Jumbo went home and emptied the basket, the brinjal boy rolled out and screamed. Mr. and Mrs.Jumbo were surprised to see a brinjal screaming ,walking and rolling....................

The brinjal boy cried, "please......... let me stay here.......
If you send me back to the vendor, somebody else will buy me and cook me". So, they decided to keep the brinjal boy in their house. Now, the brinjal boy rolled again and was happy.

Mrs.Jumbo decided to give the brinjal boy a leaf dress. He trimmed the dress in a stylish manner that he looked a little different. 

The next morning , Mr. Jumbo and his wife, took the brinjal boy in a bullock cart to the nearby town. On the way, when the cart bumped over a stone, the brinjal boy fell down from the pocket, but nobody noticed it. 
Then suddenly, the cart's wheel got loose and it tumbled over. When they fell on the road, they saw the brinjal boy screaming and rolling down.

Then Mr. Jumbo ran and caught the brinjal boy and now, he put him safely in his pocket.
They all reached the town, finished the work and returned home .

After that, Mr.Jumbo was very careful with the brinjal boy. He left him along with his wife at home to be safe. They all lived happily ever after.

Camlin and Colly - Always Inform Parents (Parenting)

In a forest there lived a mother deer and its fawn. Mother and the baby were living peacefully in the forest , with their herd. The baby Camlin had a friend named Colly.

Camlin and Colly played many games like, chasing and catching each other,
jumping over the rocks, running race, etc.

One sunny day, mother deer was drinking water in the stream . Colly called Camlin to play with him. Without asking permission from his mother, Camlin went right away with Colly.

They played for a long time in the woods and had a lot of fun. Camlin's mother and Colly's mother went in search of their fawns.

Until dawn,they could not find the fawns and they got tensed . They decided to
go back to the lake, because the fawns might return to the lake in search of their
mothers.

Meanwhile, Colly and Camlin could not find their way back . They got lost. But Camlin thought of an idea. Since it was still dawn, there was little  light, because of which, they could find their footprints and  found their way back to the lake.

At the lake, the mothers and the fawns were happy to see each other.

Camlin and Colly learned a lesson that they should inform their mothers before going anywhere and get their permission.

Land Of Special Bakery

In the Land of  Bakery, there lived cakes, cupcakes, loaves of bread, muffins, and many more..

One day, the cake, cupcake, bread and muffin went to the baker and started quarelling. The baker asked them why they were fighting and asked to give
their reasons one by one.

First came the Cake. It said, " I am always baked as a plain cake. So , kids don't
find me interesting to see and eat. I want to be special ", the Cake said.

The baker told the cake that he will decorate the cake with icing and sprinkles
and said that now the kids would love to eat cakes at birthday parties. So, the Birthday cake would be special.  The cake was happy.

Next came the cupcake. It said, " because I am small and tiny, nobody thinks
I will be yummy to eat. How could I be special ?"

The  baker said, he will decorate the cupcake too with colourful icing  with
cherry or strawberry on top.
Since the  kids cannot cut a cake at school and celebrate their birthdays, they will prefer cupcakes. Now , the cupcake felt very special and happy.

Next came the Bread Loaf and the complaint was, " if kids liked cake and cupcake, who would like me ???"

The baker had a special answer to this question. He said he would ask his
friend to make special fruit jellies, chocolate spread, etc. . Kids can use these
jellies to spread on bread slices. The bread loaf was very happy.

 

 Lastly, the muffin said, "I am not colourful and attractive like cake, cupcake,
and bread loaf. Then how will everybody like to eat me ?"

The baker said, even if the muffin is not attractive to look, it will be a choice for kids, who are allergic to milk products, which is used to make icing. So, he will make fill the muffins with blueberries, chocolate chips, etc. So, muffins will
become a healthy choice. Kids can eat them everyday for breakfast. The muffin was also very happy.

The baker changed the name  "The Land of Bakery" to "Land of Special Bakery".

Chick or No Chick

Chick or No Chick

In a barn, there lived a rooster and chicken.One day, the chicken laid an egg. It sat on the egg for days together.Even after many days , the egg did not hatch.

So, the chicken and the rooster decided to crack open the egg.The rooster poked the egg with its sharp beak.But even then no chick came out of the egg.

So, both of them broke the egg and to their astonishment, found that
the egg had no chick in it. They were very sad.

Then after some days, the hen again laid egg, this time 2 eggs.
She sat on both the eggs hoping that atleast this time, chicks will hatch out of the eggs.

Finally, one morning, rooster and the hen heard something from the egg.

First , some poking sound came. the n came out a tiny claw. then the chicks came out of the cracked eggs. They were all sticky - icky. The hen cleaned them well and fed them.

All four of the rooster and hen family lived happily together everafter.

Baby Elephant and the Tailor

Once upon a time there was a baby elephant, who lived with its mother in the mountain side.
The baby elephant liked to eat banana.

One day it went with its mother to the market.
They passed through a tailor shop, where the tailor was with his customer.

The tailor was cutting a cloth using his inch tape, scissors.
The tailor gave a banana to the baby elephant.

Everyday the baby elephant went to the tailor and asked for banana.
The tailor also gave . The baby elephant ate the banana and walked happily .

Since the elephant came everyday for banana, the tailor became angry .

So, the tailor decided that when the elephant will come the next day, he will 

insert a needle into the banana.
The next day, he gave the banana with needle to the elephant .

The needle hurt the baby elephant's tounge and it was bleeding.
It cried and its tears flowed down like a river.
The baby elephant cried and told its mother about the bad tailor.

The mother elephant got angry and took a hockey stick to beat up the tailor. 

The tailor was beaten up by the mother elephant and the shop was ruined. The tailor cried and asked sorry.
Thereafter the tailor understood his mistake and became a very nice man .
The baby elelphant lived happily with its mother.

The moral of the story is,
"Dont hurt anybody. In return you will be hurt. Be happy and make everybody happy."

The Town of Nadhipur

Come kids, let's listen to the story of the Town of Nadhipur,

There was a King and a Queen, but there was no water.
Oh ! no water ?
Yes, but once, there was a beautiful river and it always had lots of water.

Then what happened to the water ?

The people of that town threw garbage into the water and made it dirty.
They didn't clean up the river and it turned into a murky river.

The fish who lived in that river said, "we can't live in this dirty water " .
So, we are leaving this river.

The people did not have clean water to drink.
They didn't realize that it was their mistake.

Now this problem was addressed to the King.

The King asks his minister , "What is the solution to this problem, minister ?
The river has become dirty and there is no drinking water ."

The minister says, "Respected King, people have polluted the river water ."

Then, the Queen says, "Respected King, there is no rain in the town.
What is the solution for that ?"

The Minister says, " Respected King, the people have cut down trees for
building houses and for firewood. That is why there is no rain ."

The King asks the people, "What are you going to do to save the town?
You polluted the river water and cut down the trees.
Now, we don't have rain and drinking water in the town."

The people one by one say,
"We will not pollute the water and put garbage into the river water."
"We will not cut down trees, instead we will plant new trees ."

After some months, the town of Nadhipur became very beautiful with many new trees,
and the river was all cleaned up.
The people never polluted the water and they never cut down trees.
The fish came back to live in the river.
There was enough rain in the town.

Moral of the story is " Save trees and don't pollute water !"
"Save water , save earth! "

The Story of a Foolish Crow

Once in a small village, there was a crow with her family . They lived in a nest on a Mango Tree.

Everyday the crow hunted for  berries , insects, etc. 
One day after eating food , she was very thirsty. 

She flew in search of water.
She flew to a pond where there was enough water for her drink. But, there were ducks ,frogs and fish in that pond and they did not allow the crow to drink water.

Then, she flew in search of water again and found a well. 
 


There was very less water in the well.
So, she remembered her crow friend who put pebbles inside the water jug to 
make the water  level come up. 


She thought of trying the same trick and started putting lots of pebbles into the well, 
but the water never came up . The foolish crow didn't know that how many ever pebbles you put inside the well, the water won't come up.


Parental Tip :


Parents, explain why the water level in the well won't come up , and, why the water in the jug came up in the old classic story "Thirsty Crow".


Experiment for kids ....


 1. Pick some pebbles or small stones , give your kid a jug with very little water. 
 2. Ask your kid to put the stones in the jug and check if the water level came up.
 3. Then give a bigger pot and repeat the same experiment.

Vegetable Rhymes in Hindi and Tamil

This posting is related to the story Vegetable Town in this same blog.  
I have created a 2 line rhyme for some vegetables, chef, soup bowl... which are the characters in 
the story of Vegetable Town.
Of course , i have written the rhymes in Hindi,and Tamil , but with English translation.

1.(tomato)

Tamil -

thakkaalli - 
naan gundu  gundu thakkaalli,
sivappu nira thakkaalli            
ennai pachaiyaaga thinnaalaam,
samaithu kooda thinnalaam

(I am a  red fat tomato, u can eat it in salad or cooked.)

Hindi -

tamaatar -
mein hoon mota laal tamaatar,
kacha ya paka khaao tamaatar.
(I am a fat red tomato, u can eat it fresh in salad or cooked.)

2.Peas

(These are pearls of peas, fresh and green, the kid will eat it one by one.)

3.(mushroom)

 (These mushrooms are seen in bunches of mini umbrellas, want to eat it more when you see them more.)

(Mushroom is a small umbrella, eat it as much as you want  and have fun.)

4.(radish)

(Radish is white and red , with lots of water content , lets all eat and benefite from it.)

(Sweet red carrot, saves our eyes, if you eat it everyday, you can live healthy.)

(I am an orange carrot, favourite to all kids)

10. (Red Chillies)

 (this is a red hot chillie, if it is not there, there is no cooking.)

Hindi - Laal Mirch -

(This is a hot red chillie, it is used in all the recipes.)

(I am a soup bowl, if you drink me, you will become a healthy sack!)

(I am a tasty bowl of soup, if you drink me, you will be a healthy locker.)

Panda's Trip to India

Panda's Trip to India

Once upon a time, there was a little Panda who lived in a forest in China.He lived with his mommy . Panda's  mommy went to fetch bamboo trees for supper. During the day, Panda played with his other animal friends and also  learned to drive a unicycle.    He learnt unicycling very soon. He could even carry a beautiful cake on one hand, while unicycling.

Continued....   In the evenings, he played with his other friends snake, monkey and scarlet macaw. One day, he wanted to visit India to see Taj Mahal, one of the wonders of the world. So, he went with his mommy and friends to India on a vacation. In India, during a visit to a national park, he met a tiger and another baby panda, who were best friends, who played together and also fought with each other. He was surprised to see a baby panda in India. The  baby Panda and the baby tiger, also wanted to come along with Panda to China. So, they all went back together to  China , and lived happily ever after in the African jungles !!

Bollee and his friends

BOLLEE AND HIS FRIENDS

In a jungle in Africa, there lived many elephants. In that, lived a cute little baby elephant Bollee, with his mommy Mollee and daddy Dollee.  They went to the river everyday to have bath with the other elephant families.

Bollee played in the mud near the river with his friends Tollee , Kollee and Tiny. Kollee had a baby sister named Sally. The friends played in the water and sprayed water on each other . Then, they had bath and were all squeaky clean! The whole day Bollee, Tollee, Kollee and Tiny played in the jungle and they kept races to see who breaks a branch from the trees first. They ate seedlings when the felt hungry.

They composed a group song , which goes like this ....

Naughty Bollee has 3 friends,

who play in the river and sand !

They are four in all,

who make the tree branches fall !

They eat bamboo and banana

and are darlings to their mama!

Dollee (Bollee's Dad), Tody (Tollee's Dad), Kody (Kollee's Dad) and Tiko (Tiny's Dad) all go to the  mill, where they work. Their work is to lift heavy logs and load them on the conveyor belt . The wood goes to the chopping machine , from which various furnitures like table, chair , stool, are made.

One day, while Tiko was working in the saw mill, a huge log fell on his trunk, and he got hurt very badly all over his body. His trunk was bleeding. Immediately Dollee and Tody called the doctor Dock and the first aid was done.


The doctor put bandages everywhere and said Tiko should take rest for one month for recovery. So, Tiko's friends worked Tiko's job also in the mill.

Mollee (Bollee's Mom), Tally (Tollee's Mom), Kally (Kollee's Mom), Siko (Tiny's Mom) were all friends. They all went into the jungle everyday to pick up some bamboo shoots, seedlings, stems and leaves for their family to eat. Siko was pregnant , she went to Dock's clinic to check her weight every month.










On the way back from the Dock's clinic,  she fell down in a hole and got caught inside the hunter's Jack's net . Immediately her friends called their husbands and somehow rescued Siko safely. But she started getting pain and was hurried to the clinic again.











There she delivered a girl baby elephant. All the elephants were happy. They named her Shiny. Tiny was proud to be the big brother of Shiny.

After a few months , Shiny and Sally became close friends. They were always with their moms. They are girls after all , unlike their brothers.The girls always loved to do Cha-Cha dance together, by singing this lovely song......

Shiny and Sally,

are friends who are girlies! 

Who dressed up with the coconut leaves 

And danced for the Cha-Cha beats !


Tiko , Tiny's Dad recovered and started to go back to work . All the elephant families were happy.
They all lived happily together ever after.

THE END

Vegetable Stories - Vegetable Town

Next to Mr.Plump's town there was a Vegetable Town.
In that vegetable town, Carrots lived in Carrot house, Tomatoes in
tomato house,and there were other houses too like Pumpkin house,
Lemon house,Broccoli house, Pepper house and so on...............
All the vegetables had to cook their own meal by taking turns.

One day it was the Mushroom family's turn to pick some fresh vegetables to cook.
But Miss Mushroom was so lazy to go by walk. So, she asked the Carrot to give her a ride in his car.
The smily carrot was ready to help the lazy mushroom.

 From the Mushroom's family, Miss Mushroom was all ready to go with her handbag.
So, it took it Super Jet Carrot Car and went off zoooooooooooom.........



They picked a wheelbarrow full of fresh vegetables and they tied it to their Super Jet Carrot Car and finally came home.
Then quickly they arranged all the vegetables on the kitchen table.
It was radish's turn to cook.After he finished cutting the vegetables,he felt tired.

He was sweating and so was fanning for himself without cooking.

The tomato was dying with hunger .
She was angry with the radish for taking so much time to cook. 
Then finally Mr.Radish cooked the meal.
He had prepared a yummy and healthy vegetable soup, roasted the
autumn vegetables and stir fried the broccoli, carrot,cauliflower........ too.

 Even the baby peas came out of their pod to have the yummy meal and ate very nicely. 
The turnip and lettuce were happy to eat such a delicious meal.




The yellow pepper drank up all the soup.Then all the vegetables
had a good nap.The turns will continue......

Listen to Parents

Listen to Parents- Dont go near stove!!

 

There was a house in a town, where a happy family , Ramu , Sita and Suresh lived.
In a small hole in that large house, there lived a mouses' family, mommy, daddy and baby mouse.
Every morning daddy mouse went in search of food for his family.
Mousie , the baby mouse and its mommy were at home.
Mommy cooked yumy dishes for Mousie. Mousie liked cheese !!

One day while playing, it saw a piece of cheese on the dining table of the large house.
 Yes, the mouse saw the little boy Suresh eating cheese sandwich .
Mmm.... Yummmmy ....  thought Mousie.
It wanted to eat that cheese slice.So, it went into the house and then under the dining table.
Then , Mousie heard the cooker's  whistle sound in the kitchen. YES,... Suresh's mom was cooking .
She was also frying french fries !! suresh loves to eat french fries.

 

Mom gave some hot french fries to Suresh and said that she was going to have bath .
She warned him not to touch or go near the Stove, because the frying pan and oil is hot.
It is dangerous to go near the stove. Suresh said OK  MOM.....

But after mom went, he was so curious to go to the kitchen.  He has asked mom so many times
if he can help her in cooking . But mom said,  NO !!! So, now, since mom is not there, he wanted
to fry some french fries and experiment cooking.

The Mousie was watching all this . It wanted to eat the cheese slice. So, when Suresh went to the kitchen,
Mousie grabbed the cheese slice and ran away into his hole.
      
 
Now, Suresh went to the kitchen and  switched on the stove . He took a few french cut potatoes and put them in the oil.
He threw them in the oil so hard that the hot oil splashed on his face. He screamed for help.
 

  

Mom came running and saw Suresh. She didnt scold or scream at him.
She splashed some cold water on Suresh's face and took him to the doctor immediately.
Suresh was taken care of by the doctor and of course his parents.

 

What do children learn from this story?

 

All the time when mom restricts the kids from going near the hot stove and cooking, kids' minds grow more curious about this.
They don't understand the reality and the results  from that.

Kids should understand one thing.

"Mom and Dad always care for their kids and want to be extra cautious " !
